Our Story

A kitchen table, a sewing machine, and the belief that little ones deserve beautifully made things.

How It Started

Lewis & Bear began in 2017 when founder Emma Lewis couldn't find children's clothing that met her standards for both comfort and design. Everything on the high street felt either mass-produced or prohibitively expensive, with very little in between.

So she started making her own. First for her son (the "Lewis"), then for friends, then for a small market stall in Clifton. The bear came later, a hand-stitched companion she made as a first birthday gift that people kept asking to buy.

What We Believe

Gentle Materials

Every fabric we use is GOTS-certified organic cotton or responsibly sourced linen. No synthetic dyes, no harsh chemicals. Just soft, breathable cloth that feels lovely against young skin.

Slow Making

We produce in small batches with UK-based makers who share our values. It takes longer, but it means less waste and more care in every stitch.

Timeless Design

We steer clear of trends and character licensing. Our muted palettes and simple shapes are designed to be passed down, not thrown away after one season.

Where We Are Now

Today, Lewis & Bear operates from a bright studio in Bristol's Stokes Croft neighbourhood. Our small team of five handles everything from pattern-cutting to packing orders, and we still hand-finish every companion bear ourselves.

We've been fortunate to be stocked by independent boutiques across the South West and ship directly to families throughout the UK. Our community of parents, gifters and fellow makers continues to grow, and we're grateful for every single one.
